Walking on Sunraysia
John Falcon
Walking on the land of Sunraysia, Latji Latji, and Barkinji Country, I am deeply connected to the flora and fauna around me. Each bird, reptile, tree, and animal carries a story, offering beauty and abundance. My journeys are filled with moments of illumination and alignment with creation, where the earth’s energies are embodied in every living thing I encounter.
In my culture (Mexican), we believe that each animal has a counterpart in the human spirit, a “nahuali” or “shadow soul.” These encounters are reminders of the deep bond I share with the creatures of this land. My art reflects these connections, transforming them through sound, movement, and colour, deepening my understanding and respect for all living beings.
Through creativity, I enter a state of awareness, where I am aligned with the energy of the land. I strive to honour these beings, creating art that reflects their primal beauty and wisdom, before they are lost to time.
