Cairo Loy, Curse of the Blood Ghoul, 2018. Acrylic on canvas
Carolyne Rickard, R.A.I.N, 2018. Acrylic paint and pouring medium
The BloodGhoul is a tribute to the colourful and creepy critters of classic horror. A monster of simple design, the Ghoul is one you might find in the pages of a comic book, or on the poster of a black and white horror movie. He represents the things we know don’t exist, but choose to fear and be consumed by to escape the horrors of the real world.

Living inMildura, the regional desert of Victoria, we are without natural elements like rain. When rain does happen it is not only a cultural event but a significant one. Rain is an event to be celebrated as it provides this town with an abundance of life. It creates a feeling of hope that our sins can be washed away. One woman describes rain as it’s like being patted on the head for doing a great job in life, over and over again. My work describes the power of rain and how it makes people become fascinated by the endless vision of water thatchanges our lives in one pass. As shifting replicas of a perfect circle form in drops they are transported in a repetitive fashion to enrich the land. The colours of R.A.I.N are mimicked by the land.
