Rhian McLeod, Wonderings, 2022. Pen and Ink.
‘Wings and Wonderings’ is a collection of works exploring connections between our native birds, flora and self throughout a passage of time.
Within the collection is the series ‘Home’ which was created during the pandemic and multiple lockdowns. While confined to my home near the river during this time moments were captured showing an appreciation for surroundings of gums, grevilleas and visiting native birds. Each work is a study and focus on the organic shape, form and line of our plant life with bold colour concealing tiny birds, creating a sense of hope throughout challenging moments in time.
‘Introspective’ is a series exploring newfound freedoms and recapturing a sense of self. Pen and ink flow over the paper to incorporate soft tonal palettes with hints of lush colour and intricate linework featuring patterns influenced from the earth, water and plant life. The fairy wren, galah and magpie explore facets of personality and reflections of self.
‘Wings and Wonderings’ is a body of work exploring a passage of time and quiet introspection while illustrating a love of our native flora and feathered fauna.
