Book Launch and Talk

Join us for the launch of Dr Don Edgar’s new book Art for the Country: The story of Victoria’s regional art galleries.
Edgar’s book outlines how the arts thrived in two very different periods: the post-Gold Rush days of affluence and the post-World War II days of reconstruction, under Henry Bolte and Arthur Rylah.
The narrative also explains the central role played by Mildura’s leaders in bringing the arts to many of Victoria’s country towns (Hamilton, Benalla, Ararat, Swan Hill, Sale, Horsham and others) plus a rejuvenation of the earlier provincial galleries that had languished for many years.

Commissioned by Public Galleries Association of Victoria (PGAV).
Date: Saturday 16 February
